| FIPA-Virtual Parliament
project: Establish a section in the FIPA website to facilitate
exchange of information regarding the negotiation and implications
of the FTAA. |
The recently launched
FIPA VP Phase 1 website includes a partial version of
the FTAA section. It includes: access to FTAA information; related
parliamentary activity; and related trade documentation. |
When Phase 2 of the
Virtual Parliament is funded, an FTAA team of FIPA members will
begin to use the workspace, and guide the development of FTAA
workspace and information. |

distribute a document following up on each FIPA FTAA Work Group
recommendation. |

to use parliamentarians with experience in trade negotiations
to advise and share expertise with others. |
FTAA-Work Group is considering a
proposal to the Hemispheric Cooperation Fund to set aside
some funds targeted to support parliamentarians from small countries.
It would include this feature. |

Some documentation on the Brazilian
approach has been accumulated, but no other action is underway.

When Phase 2 of the Virtual Parliament

| FIPA-Executive: Study IPU-WTO
relationship as a model for FIPA-FTAA and seek ways directly
to achieve this end. |
The FIPA Chair sent letters to
the Brazilian and US negotiators asking for a formalized
FIPA presence at meeting of trade ministers in Miami, in November
19. |

be involved in the development of the Hemispheric Cooperation
