FIPA
FTAA Working Group
Each plenary meeting held by FIPA has included a working
group focusing on the FTAA. At the Panama Plenary Meeting in February
2003, the group chaired by John Godfrey, Member of Parliament of
Canada, reviewed and synthesized recommendations of previous working
groups. Following this review, the FTAA Working Group made several
action-oriented recommendations to the Executive Committee of FIPA,
encouraging it to follow-up and monitor the progress of the FTAA
negotiation process. These recommendations provide the basis for
an action plan that included the creation of an ongoing FTAA working
group.
In response to this development, the FTAA section
of the FIPA Virtual Parliament (VP) provides information related
to the role of parliamentarians concerning the negotiation of, and
public deliberation on, the provisions of the FTAA.
The FTAA section of the Virtual Parliament provides
a dedicated on line workspace which enables parliamentarians to:
1) Acquire and share information about the FTAA process
2) Discuss the issues in an online forum
3) Follow up on the decisions, recommendations and actions taken
by FIPA's FTAA Working Group
4) Become involved in the projects of the FTAA Working Group
