FIPA Working Group on Terrorism

The Special Group on Terrorism of FIPA held its first meeting in Mexico City, in May of 2003. The meeting was organized following a proposal by the Colombian delegation that FIPA establish a Special Working Group on Terrorism, to act on this most pressing issue. FIPA members unanimously approved the proposal for such a group, made at the Second Plenary Meeting of FIPA, February 2003.

The main objective of the Working Group is to provide a forum for the discussion and implementation of strategies for parliamentarians in their fight against terrorism. This includes the ratification and implementation of international hemispheric commitments, such as the Inter-American Convention Against Terrorism, and the eventual development of common legislation throughout the region regarding the issues of terrorism and hemispheric security.

FIPA's Special Working Group on Terrorism is currently working to fulfill the commitments made at its last meeting. If you are a parliamentarian and are interested in more information on this group or would like to become involved in FIPA's fight against terrorism, please click here contact the FIPA Technical Secretariat.
